Connex - Torbay

Young people run the business
Connex Torbay consists of members of the Torbay Youth Cabinet, Economic Wellbeing sub group. The sub groups were set up with aim of more young people being able to voice their opinions on focussed sections of the every child matters framework. There are also sub groups for Being Healthy & Safe and for Making a Positive Contribution.
The group has a dual role, to act as consultants to Connexions and as part of the Youth Cabinet to be a consultancy group for Torbay Council and other youth agencies. Requests for consultancy work come into the main cabinet for allocation. Pieces of work so far have been website design, "Your Bay Your Say" event and work on the Connexions Independent Advice and Guidance plan.
Feedback is to both the main Youth Cabinet and the Connexions personal advisers.
The group meets once a month (Monday evenings) and uses South Devon College as a venue for convenience. Age range is currently 15-17.
Recruitment to the Economic Wellbeing sub group has traditionally come from the UKYP election process. Because some of our current members have been successful in this year's election campaigns, more voices are needed.
