Mental health

Teenage years can be a difficult time and there are lots of things that can make you feel stressed out. You might have been working hard, studying hard, or partying hard and all this can take a lot out of you and make you feel drained and stressed. Maybe there is so much going on in your life that you are finding it difficult to cope and feel positive.

Looking after your mind is just as important as looking after your body and caring about your physical fitness. When we're physically ill, most of us visit our GP, but we rarely do the same when it comes to looking after our emotional wellbeing.

National studies suggest that in the UK, about 1 in 10 (10%) of all young people may experience a mental health problem or disorder where they may need help from a mental health specialist.

There are a whole range of mental health problems and disorders, which include:

  • anxiety disorder
  • manic depression
  • eating disorders
  • self-harming.

When it comes to things like stress or anxiety, it's always helpful to talk things through with your family and friends. But if you're worried about your mental health you should visit your GP.
