Our history

The Company was formed in 1995 as Cornwall and Devon Careers Ltd to deliver the government funded Careers service. In 2000 the Company renamed as Connexions Cornwall and Devon Ltd after securing the contract to pilot the Connexions service in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay.

In April 2001 the Connexions service was rolled out across England, and the Company was awarded the full contract to deliver impartial information, advice and guidance to the region's 13 - 19 year olds.

The quality and strength of the Company's management and contract delivery services led to diversification and the addition of further contracts, e.g. Next Step, Devon Education Business Partnership (DEBP), and Investor in Careers (IiC).

With effect from the 1st April 2008 Connexions Cornwall and Devon Ltd transferred from an independent company delivering public services, to operating as a wholly local authority controlled company. Funding for young people information, advice and guidance is now routed through the peninsula's four local authorities, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Devon, Plymouth, and Torbay, who commission the Company to deliver these services.

The Company changed its name to Careers South West Ltd in March 2009 to reflect the broader range of information, advice and guidance services being delivered.

The Company's ethos, established in 1995 as a ‘can do' company with a ‘will do' approach, has continued seamlessly through to Careers South West Ltd with a commitment to delivering information, advice and guidance contracts to the highest standard, across the south west, to an all age community.
