Somerset ‘You-can-Do’. The enhanced volunteer bureau

Somerset County Councils Community Support Programme has asked us to test a number of different ways volunteers can support individuals to take part in local community activities. We have named this concept Somerset ‘You can do’

We will recruit, train and match the volunteers to the individuals and activities, whilst also providing on-going support to the volunteer.

The aim of the pilot will be to support individuals to take part in community based activities that will help them remain active, develop new skills and remain independent for longer.

Volunteers work in local teams and can be involved in one or more of the following:

  • facilitating groups
  • Somerset friendship circles including internet support groups
  • 1 to1 support and befriending
  • Supported volunteering
  • Email volunteers
  • Text and Phone volunteers
